REC & KUBRA: Enhancing Outage Communication for Customer Connection

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a member-owned utility that provides electric service to over 180,000 connections across 22 Virginia counties. Established in 1980 through the merger of Virginia Electric Cooperative and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative, REC operates from its main office in Spotsylvania County. REC manages more than 18,000 miles of power lines and serves diverse types of accounts, including residential, commercial, and industrial.
Learn how customized Storm Center™ outage map features allowed REC to communicate restoration efforts and keep customers well-informed during major outages. When a major winter storm hit the area, Storm Center quickly informed REC members about the extent of outages and made their experiences more engaging. Over the two-day storm, the outage map was viewed over 500,000 times, and users spent an average of 12 minutes engaging with it. These strategic improvements in outage communications significantly benefited REC's service area. Read on to explore the impactful transformation achieved through these enhancements.
“We appreciate KUBRA’s responsiveness and ability to recognize our request and how they respond to that with a solution. KUBRA has exceeded our expectations by recognizing our sense of urgency and matching that urgency with a response. At REC, we are always looking into the future to anticipate what our customers' needs are going to be. Working with a partner like KUBRA is great because they already have solutions to help us explore new tools and communication methods. We are extremely excited to work with KUBRA and continue to grow our long-term partnership.”
